Crossroads Care Surrey - Guildford & Waverley
  • Need

This project is aimed at supporting carers to re-engage with their local communities, thus reducing isolation, exclusion and low lying mental health broblems such as depression, loneliness and stress. Also to give them a break to catch up with shopping, Dr's appointments etc.

We will be providing a safe and stimulating environement for carers to leave their 'loved one' for up to 4 hours with highly trained professionals to look after them.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

The project will support both improvements in both physical and mental health of carers.

» By making time and space for carers to pursue activities other than caring for their loved one.

    What success will look like

Success will the number of carers not requiring intervention by the health service.

    Aim 2

This will actively combat the isolation and social exclusion experienced by carers.

» Carers are able to plan outings knowing that professionals will take over the caring role.

    What success will look like

Success will be...carers having time for themselves instead of thinking of their cared for.

  • Impact

It will change the health and well being of all carers who will use the service. This will in turn help the statutory services with savings on long term care for the elderly. The success will be demonstrated by how many carers stay in their caring role for longer.

Not finding a suitable venue. We are in talks with the Diosese of Guildford who are backing this project by actively looking at their church halls.

By annual statistical report giving numbers of clients helped and by carers feedback.

  • Background

We are planning this service to be based in Guildford which would enable carers living in Guildford BC to use the service

There are 23000 carers in our branch area with at least 3000 providing 50+ hours of care each week. We currently receive up to 20 new referrals per month and have a 6 month waiting list to receive support. We work with around 450 carers annually and whilst recognizing that not all carers will need or want our help, it is clear that there is a huge amount of unmet local need.
