Carers Can Dance The World
Respite & Recovery UK have chosen the many benefits of Dance as our focus for 2011 and 2012. The emphasis will be on World Heritage Dances and all they have to offer our beneficiaries in terms of their physical, mental and cultural well being.
September 2011 - August 2012
Charity information: Respite & Recovery UK
The project aims to address the needs of carers and survivors who want to concentrate on developing their emotional, physical & cultural well being so that they can progress along the path to recovery. There is strong evidence to show that In addition to problems associated with the isolation that our beneficiaries experience many find that physical activity has taken second place to the demands of caring for a loved one or having to endure periods of intensive treatment
Respite & Recovery UK Dance The World Courses will provide our beneficiaries with enjoyable activities that address their isolation by working and communicating in a group. We know that many people readily engage in dance as a way of improving their fitness and health & a further benefit is the opportunity to widen experience and challenge preconceived ideas
Stage a series of World Dance Courses for carers and people in recovery from long term illness
Activities» Run 12 innovative & enjoyable World Heritage dance workshops over the year for our beneficiaries and members of the wider community

» We will employ only highly qualified tutors who are well respected & experienced exponents of their special dance heritage
What success will look like
Success will be that participants understand & appreciate the traditions of a range of cultures recognising & responding to the similarities of world experiences with their own
The project will encourage beneficiaries to focus on the physical, social, cultural & mental benefits of dance & continue to improve the quality of their wellbeing through similar exercise activities.
We will monitor the success of the project through feedback from & continued support for beneficiaries regarding their progress over the ensuing year. We will also continue to work with carer organisations to gain further information on the effects of the project.
There is a risk that tutor availability may be compromised e.g. through illness. We have a data base of suitable replacement tutors to call on in this eventuality.
There are the usual health & safety risks associated with physical activities – we have extensive health & safety measures in place to address these.
Donors will be able to track the progress of the project through the Respite & Recovery UK web site, Facebook and a quarterly news letter that includes updates on the workshops availability and successes.
