  • Background

    Location

TRSE is based in Newham, which is the 2nd most deprived borough in London and the 3rd most deprived borough in the UK. In Newham adults die 7 years earlier than those in Westminster and one third of adults in Newham have never worked. Newham has the lowest arts participation rate in the UK of 27%.

    Beneficiaries

Those individuals who want to create and have their voices heard but are struggling to find their way into an arts industry that has traditionally been closed off to them. There are many reasons behind this, including financial difficulties, self-esteem, cultural backgrounds to name but a few.

Our audiences will also benefit and grow, with tickets prices kept affordable to ensure our local community and the UK-wide community can enjoy brand new work from the UK's emerging talent pool.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Our vision is to break new ground with musicals that bring contemporary and urban music into the mainstream of British theatre. The aim is to revitalise the musical form, to create work that is relevant to and informed by today’s Britain and attract new and diverse audiences. No other theatre has a 50 year history of successfully building relationships and creating work with a hugely varied and changing community such as Newham.
