Project information

Creating Words

We would like to hire a tutor to enable our members to put together poems and short stories about all aspects of life. It needs to be a fun project where the participants feel they have achieved fully. We hope to get this printed and sell the copies at fund raising events and if we can to retailer

It is expected that the project could be completed in 6 months but it is hoped this will lead to other projects.

  • Need

The project will show that what ever the ability everyone can contribute.

The people who take party will be anabled by the tutor and staff. Some participants will need varied assistance to put contributions together. For example deaf/blind interpreter, scribe and listener, computer literate enablers. It will make the participants feel they have a part to play in society and can complete a project. It will also give the people the strength and confidence to participate in meetings where they can make a difference. With a suitable enabler anything can be achieved.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Run a creative writing project.

» Run the workshop for four months.
    » Collate the work
    » get the book published
» market the book where ever we can to provide an income

    What success will look like

Success will be...20 plus people will contribute to a work they can see published

    Aim 2

Enable people with complex abilities to produce a supurb publication

» Get the finance to get started
» Work with Community Education to provide a tutor
» Get funding for the enablers, collators and publishing the book.
» find a publisher and market the finished product.

    What success will look like

Success will be...providing the participants to fulfil an ambition and those who were not so ambitious to prove to them they can provide people with a publication worth reading

  • Impact

The project will give our members ideas for future projects and they will be able to take the publication to outside fund raising and other events to publicise the work that Mid Suffolk Axis does for people with physical and/or sensory disabilities. It is hoped more members will have the confidence to go out to events to market not only Mid Suffolk Axis but the work they can do whilst they attend the group. Thus encouraging other members to join.

Lack of funding. We have other applications being completed
Enablers. We haver fullky trained Support Workers and many volunteers.
Provision of Tutors from Community Education. We have other avenues we can go down to get private tutors when we have got the funding.

We can report in whatever way they wish but an email contact would probably be the best way to keep doners informed of the project progress. This would be on a monthly basis when the project starts. We hope there would not need to be any changes but we will notify of any we are considering.

  • Background

The project will be at our premises at Setles House Thorndon on two of the days we meet. It is where we provide many activites that our members can enjoy when they attend the group.

The area we cover is all of Mid Suffolk and the adjoining areas. We also have membership form the Norfolk area. People come to us after self referal or referal from proffesional bodies working in the field of disability and health. We provide proffesional personal assistance in an environment where people ccn access oportunities they could not access without the additional assistance. All attendees, staff and volunteers can benefit from this project either by contributing or selling the book
