Westholme School Music Centre Extension
To increase the available square footage of our cramped Music Centre by 100%, to allow over 1000 pupils each year access to adequate space to study and create music.
September 2012 - December 2012
In the 25 years since our Music Centre was built, pupils taking individual music lessons have increased by over 100%. The Senior and Junior Choirs have doubled, and the Orchestra and Swing Band vie for space. Simply put, we have inadequate practice rooms, performance or storage space for the vast array of instruments our pupils play. Music is a vital part of life at Westholme and we encourage pursuit of the arts. The extension is not a luxury, it is a necessity to fit all our musicians in.
The extension will provide double the floor space to the Music Centre with storage, practice and communal spaces all being created. All pupils can be timetabled in the Music Centre and there will be more available periods for creative time, to stretch the most able students and encourage those at a lower level.
To rasie £250,000 to build the Music Centre Extension by September 2012.
Activities» We have approached key members to ask them for donations, and continue to build relationships to drive awareness and need for funds.
» We have completed a 24 hours Music Marathon whereby pupils sang solo or in groups or played an instrument for 24 hours without break.
» We have held a number of fundraising events and will contiunue to do so, such as a celebrity fashion show by Henry Holland.
Success will be raising the full total of £250,000 in order to build the Music Centre Extension.
We anticipate the calibre of our music output as evidenced at concerts, shows and public performances to improve. Westholme is well known for its professional perfomances and we would expect this reputation to grow, continuing the trend of full audiences and sold- out shows. We also antipate that the numbers of pupils having personalised music tuition will increase from 30% to 40% over the next 5 years and will demonstrate this through tracking of numbers.
The economic climate is a wide spread issue which has meant that donations have come in at a slower pace than expected. We have already reached the target of 68% of funds (£169,000) so it is highly unlikely the project would not come to fruition as these are rstricted funds and the School has financial stability.
I will write a report via email or post on a monthly basis to explain financial progress, followed by the building programme on hitting the target of £250,000. The report will contain pictoral evidence.
