York CAB - Supporting Volunteers
York CAB is raising money to recruit, train and support new volunteer advisers and information assistants. York needs more advisers, but it costs about £1000 to train up each volunteer. However, for each £1 that is spent training a volunteer, we get at least £5 of value.
January 2012 - December 2012
York & District Citizens Advice Bureau
Last year, nearly 5,000 York residents got help from the CAB, a
massive 27% increase over the year before.
Some of the areas we help people with:
DEBT - partly by helping people
budget and re-arrange the
payments so they become
manageable and, where that is not
possible, by getting all or some of
the debts written off;
INCOME – by helping people
increase their income, by claiming
money they are entitled to, such as
Tax Credits, Pension Credits and
We will train up new volunteers to provide the advice and information that people in York need.
To provide advice and assistance to 1000 more residents of York.
Activities» The recruitment, training and supervision of new volunteers.
1000 additional residents helped by York CAB
More people will become aware of their rights and how to assert them with minimal extra help from advice agencies, people will be better able to manage their own finances and the incomes of many residents will rise, meaning fewer people living in poverty.
We have plenty of people who want to volunteer but we do not have the capacity to train and support enough new advisers. Extra funding would ensure that we have the specialist staff employed to train and supervise new volunteers.
In additional to our Annual Report, we have launched a quarterly Newsletter that will be sent to anyone who expresses interest - just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org headed "CAB Newsletter."
