The need for parents to protect their children from the risks that unsafe internet use can present.
Many adults are still not internet aware although their children are using it regularly. There is a need to present to parents an event that they will attend and from which they will learn how to protect their children.
We will work with school children to help them become aware of the risks of unsafe Internet use. Together we will create a performance about online safety for their parents. This is an exciting, stimulating and educational performance based project which will educate about:
•The potential dangers of giving out personal information
•How easily other people can lie online
•The risks of meeting people you don't know
•How to ensure your child is safe online
To help parents & children understand the risks of unsafe internet use and how to guard against them
Activities» Developing the song, dance, movement and drama sessions to include the current thinking about online safety & the best message for children & parents.
» Booking and touring schools with the 6 weekly workshop sessions, and developing the performance with all Key stage 2 children in each school.
» Ensuring as many school staff and local community members as possible are involved and with each school, organising marketing and promotion to parents
» The performances by the children where we'll also ensure parents are aware of continued support & advice from schools and relevant community members
What success will look like
Success will be feedback from teachers & parents that the parents have been made aware of the risks of unsafe internet use & that they now understand how to protect their children.
The online safety of all the children with whom we've worked.
This will not be easy to measure but we will be made aware of its success when we are asked to continue to deliver the work. We are confident this innovative method of informing parents will work and word will spread so there will be a demand from schools throughout our area. We would also like to offer it nationwide and if it is well received we know it will have been effective. Other topics may then be tackled in a similar way.
Lack of funding. We have applied for a grant and we have urged all the schools that are interested to look for funding themselves.
We will be delighted to inivite donors to the performances. There will also be a written evaluation at the end of each project. Our Annual Report is lodged with the Charity Commission. Evaluation and Report will be sent if required and we will adhere to and concur with any other reasonable requests.

Initally the project will be deliverd to four schools in isolated and disavantaged areas in Cornwall. Despite being known for its beauty and tourism, Cornwall is recognised by the European Parliament as an area of extreme poverty, deprivation and rural isolation. Unemployment is above the national average and there is a predominance of families who have been unemployed for 3 generations.
It is also our aim to tour with the project throughout the UK to wherever it is needed.
Initially the project will go to 4 schools over 10 months. In each school we will work with a minimum of 60 children. Most children have parents/guardians, grandparents, brothers, sisters & friends, each performance will be to 100 people. In total, this project will directly benefit 640 people. Although the project is directed towards parents & their children it is not limited to them. We aim to promote the project & the message to as many people across Cornwall as possible.
We have over 15 years of experience in the field of educational drama & children’s self esteem & welfare. We will ensure that we work within national & local guidelines & the specific focus of each school involved creating an engaging & powerful performance to appeal to parents psychologically & emotionally. Children’s participation will encourage parents to become involved & take action to protect their children. The message will be balanced & not just suggest that the internet is all bad.
