Suffolk Disability Care Fund
To provide specialist equipment to Suffolk adults and children with disabilities, to help improve their mobility, communication and independence.
The Suffolk Foundation
Many people with disabilities are striving to lead full and active lives but the equipment provided to them by statutory sources is often very limiting. Specialist equipment is beyond the reach of many families, leading to frustration, isolation and a strain on both the individuals and their carers.
A grant from the Suffolk Disability Care Fund can provide a family with a life-changing piece of equipment such as a powered wheelchair, a specialist buggy or trike, or a larger car seat for an older child with a disability.
To raise £10,000 for specialist equipment for Suffolk adults and children with disabilities.
Activities» To promote the Suffolk Disability Care Fund to a new generation of supporters through local social media and press.
Success will be awarding 10 grants of £1,000 each to local families.
Grants from the Suffolk Disability Care Fund make a significant impact on improving the quality of life for local families affected by disability. Previous grants have resulted in far greater mobility and independence for local people with disabilities, resulting in better mental well-being and improved access to full and active lives in the community.
The risk of a grant being misused is minimised by all grant applications being submitted via a professional health or social worker who has identified the need, and all grant awards are made directly to the supplier of the specialist equipment and never to the individual or family.
Funders of this project will be notified of all grant awards made by the Suffolk Disability Care Fund, with case studies illustrating the impact of the grant on individuals who have received specialist equipment to improve their quality of life.

The powered wheelchair has made a huge difference to my life. I can now catch the bus into town on my own and has given me so much more independence.
