Destination Dreams provides children who are fighting life threatening illnesses, and their families, with an organised trip of a lifetime to Disney World, Florida. Caudwell Children provides families with all the logistical, medical and emotional support they need to create lasting memories.
April 2011 - December 2011
Charity information: Caudwell Children
Often families with children who are fighting life threaten illnesses are unable to take a family holiday, even on a very local scale, as the medical and emotional support they would need would prevent it. We know that 25,000 children in the UK have a life threatening condition, 104 children die from a childhood illness every week and 2,200 children spend over 6 months in hospital.
Destination Dreams can offer these children and their families the chance to enjoy quality time together and have a much needed break form painful treatments and on going hospital appointments. It also offeres their brothers and sisters the chance to experience a holiday of a life time that simply wouldn't be possible without the support of Caudwell Children.
To give children with life threatening illnesses and their families a once in a life time expereince
Activities» An organised holiday for 25 families taking them to to Disney World, Florida.
What success will look like
Families to report a safe and enjoyable trip giving them the chance to relax and enjoy something they could never do without the help of Caudwell Children.
Many of the children who are invited to Destination Dreams will very sadly have shorter life expectancies than most. The holiday will be a lasting memory for the whole family for the rest of their lives. Caudwell Children intend to run Destination Dreams every year.
The children who we support as part of Destination Dreams have life limiting conditions. There is a risk that they will be too ill to travel or sadly they could pass away before the trip takes place. We have a reserve list of families able to travel if this occurs. The trip can also be at risk of airport strikes and other issues relating to travel which would be out of our control, we have insurance which provides protection to the charity if this situation occurred.
We will include a thank you from the families, volunteers and some staff in our Annual Report and in our quarlty newsletter - Smile. Doners to this project will also recieve an email of thanks.
