    Solution

We have been a portal for digital-media performance for some time. We see many young people who are talented and aspiring film-makers, designers, animators and whiz-kids at manipulating technology in original, creative ways. Because of this, we have set up a MEDIA LOUNGE at Contact to be able to run FREE innovative digital skills-based projects, residencies and master-classes. YOUR SUPPORT WILL PROVIDE A FULLY EQUIPPED MEDIA SUITE AND 1 YEAR'S PROJECT ACTIVITY

Increase the numbers and diversity of young people engaging in the arts

  • Impact

    Impact

The project will enable a wider range of young people to enter the world of new media through education or employment. Participants experiences will be enriched through learning at Contact where they will have access to wide range of arts influences, not simply media. The Media Lounge will provide structured activities for young people, giving them a focus and goals, promoting positive behaviours and moving them away from at-risk activities.

    Risk

It's likely some of our participants will come from transitional backgrounds of have chaotic home lives. This presents the risk that some could drop out of the ongoing structured programmes. Ideally we'd like all participant to attend consistently across the projects. To combat this sessions will include a drop-in hour, allowing individuals who are not participating in a Media Lounge residency to be involved whenever they attend.

    Reporting

Donors will receive updates on the Media Lounge, the projects and events it supports. They will have the opportunity to use the Media Lounge, attend sessions and meet participants. They’ll be able to access content/products created by participants, and will be invited to live performances.

  • Background

    Location

The Media Lounge is at Contact in Manchester and projects will take place there. Contact is in Hulme, which is in the bottom 12% on the Index of Multiple Deprivation (07). The area comprises a lot of students and immigrant communities. Many of the young people in the area are termed as at-risk or hard to reach. We seek young people from all over Manchester, but our outreach is targeted at young people from areas with little or no arts/creative activity for young people.

    Beneficiaries

Young people between 15-21 from a range of backgrounds from Greater Manchester. We anticipate some participants coming from deprived communities, experiencing at-risk situations and not in education, employment or training.
