Information leaflet production
When a family receives a diagnosis of a child’s deafness it is vital that they can access the right information and support. Early contact with familes is key. Producing a leaflet that provides an overview of our work and contact details allows families to find out about us and make early contact.
May 2011 - June 2011
Making the decision about whether to put their child through major surgery to receive a cochlear implant allowing access to sound is very stressful for parents. The amount of information available from professionals and organizations can be overwhelming. Talking to other families who have been through the process is key as they have a wealth of unbiased experience to share. Early access to the support and information our charity provides is vital.
We will produce an information leaflet giving an overview of our charity’s aims and our contact details. The leaflet will be made available in places where families who have deaf children are likely to be including: audiology departments and cochlear implant centres as well as at conferences and family days. This will enable families to access the contact, information and support we can offer.
Design and print an information leaflet
Activities» Recruit a designer who will ensure that the layout and design meets our objectives.
» Recruit a printer to print the leaflets, initially 5,000.
» Print the leaflet and distribute supplies to relevant organizations and clinics.
Success will be having 200 leaflets to distribute to each center where families with newly diagnosed deaf children will access them.
The leaflet will reduce the feeling of isolation that families face when their child is first diagnosed as being deaf. It will inform them about cochlear implantation and the contacts provided will help with any problems regarding the implantation. We will ask families that contact us how they heard about us. Success will be that a significant number of families first heard about us through a leaflet in a waiting room.
There is a risk that our leaflets may be lost or mixed up with others in waiting rooms. We will deal with this by asking our volunteers to ensure that ours are well placed. We will also ask staff with whom we have links at the centres to raise awareness about our leaflet.
Donors will receive a six monthly report on the success of the leaflet.

Deaf children and their families who are looking for support and information.
Families with deaf children who may be isolated and poorly informed about how to best help their children or themselves. An information leaflet that reaches families and tells them about our work will help to reduce the isolation.
We are the only independent national family lead charity dealing with cochlear implantation in the UK. Families share their experiences and learn from one another. Families and are unbiased and best placed to support others in the same situation as them.
