Operation Smile Medical Projects

Operation Smile is an international medical services charity which provides free reconstructive facial surgery to children and young people with facial deformities, primarily cleft lip and cleft palates, in the developing world.

  • Need


    Our current focus is on Projects in Vietnam where 1:500 births has a cleft. This is equivalent to nearly 3,000 cleft births each year in Vietnam based on the current population.
    Vietnam is a country with a population of around 86 million people making it the 13th most populous country in the world. Despite its economic growth being ranked among the highest in the world, around 20% of Vietnam’s population still lacks access to basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, and clothing.


    Operation Smile is running a full programme of Projects over the next 12 months with surgical Projects taking place every month,staffed locally, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City. In addition they also plan to conduct several local Projects in rurual areas and at least 2 International Projects.

    To provide truly life-changing surgery for 80 children in Vietnam.


    » Local, 80 patient Projects are scheduled each month in Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City with larger, international Projects taking place 2-3 times per year.
