New Evangelisation & Catechesis

Responding to Pope Benedict's visit to Britain and Beatification of John Henry Newman in September 2010 when he called for a New Evangelisation, Maryvale is augmenting its catechetical mission throughout the British Isles and in locations worldwide and expenses are needed for the trained volunteers.

    The Institute is always looking for funds for its catechetical mission, not only for work in the British Isles but elsewhere, including Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, the United Arab Emirates. Maryvale's international reputation for catechesis has led to involvement with the Franciscan University of Steubenville in the U.S.A. and the Studium of Notre Dame de Vie, Venasque in France.


    Aiming to achieve £10,000 in the year to August 2012 by individual donations and fundraising efforts.

    To provide funds to develop Catholic catechetical resources, education and outreach.


    » Direct approaches to individuals and charitable trusts.

    Success will be signalled by achieving a short-term financial resource of £90,000 in this calendar year.

  • Impact


    Establishment of permanent networks of mentors, catechists and learners available to provide authentic teaching and clarification of the Catholic Faith in all parts of the world.


    There are no apparent risks.


    Donors are kept informed individually by letter or email. Progress with catechetical development is also reported by printed newsletter, on the Maryvale Institute website,

    Maryvale Institute is based in Birmingham, England, but there are various Maryvale centres or 'outposts' throughout the world.

    Maryvale Institute is now in its 31st year and has a long and well-attested reputation in teaching the Catholic Faith from school certificate level to first degrees and doctorates.

    Deputy Director of the Institute and Dean of Graduate Research, is also concerned with catechesis at all levels.

    Academic Assistant to the Director of the Institute and Director of the B.A. in Applied Theology (Catechesis), has a leading role in catechesis.
