Bendrigg Trust Residential Trip
The Bendrigg Trust is an activity and adventure centre based in the Lake District with facilities for disabled people, and provides the learners from Portland College the opportunity to experience activities like abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing and kayaking.
July 2011 - July 2011
Charity information: Portland College
Every year, the college supports a group of learners to attend for one week of activities at Bendrigg, accompanied by a group of college staff who will be “on duty” from dawn to dusk – and during the night if needed. The learners are usually drawn from the “Gateway” group – Gateway is a Mencap award/qualification that involves a number of units including Life Skills, Service, Hobbies, Sport and the Adventure Challenge, the latter being the Bendrigg adventure week.
Portland are looking for support to enable this group of learners to attend the Bendrigg Trust trip, without this support the learners just will not be able to go, missing out on this fantastic opportunity.
To give Portland learners a chance to try outdoor activities they wouldn't normally be able to.
Activities» The group of learners are raising funds to get themselves to Bedrigg but funds are tight.
What success will look like
Success will be..getting the group of 10 learners to Bendrigg in July.
The trip will allows the group of learners to gain their Mencap Gateway qualification, giving them another qualification to add to their CV, and therefore helping them gain employment when they leave Portland.
There are no real risks that could affect the project as the Bendrigg centre has facilities that will allow learners to take part in all weather conditions.
The learners plan to make a scrapbook of their time at Bendrigg including photos and stories to send to donors to show exactly what a difference their donation has made.

Portland College learners are people aged 16+ who have a physical disability. They come to Portland to gain qualifications, life skills and the independence to hopefully live independently when they leave 3 years later. Portland gives these young people an opportunity that any other main stream educational facility does not provide.
Portland College is a national specialist residential college, so we have the staff and facilities to support our learners in every way possible.
