Charity information: South Westminster Community Festival
Many older residents in South Westminster express a feeling of isolation, because they have become less mobile, friends have moved or passed away, or they don't like going out for fear of their safety. The Festival aims to help overcome this by bringing vulnerable and marginalised members of the community together through activities that are fun and memorable.
This event is being run in direct response to needs expressed by older residents who want more opportunities to come together, share and enjoy each other's company. The project teams up with Open Age who offer a range of services to the elderly. Previous events have brought older residents into contact with their services for the first time, which has a lasting impact.

Mobility is a key issue for some of our target people, however Churchill Gardens Residents Hall has been specifically chosen because of its excellent disability access. Another key risk is the climate; the event is held in the summer so if it is particularly hot then some older residents won't want to come out. However, we will ensure that Churchill Gardens Residents Hall have sufficient fans.
Donors can join our Festival Facebook or email list, and recieve a report on the event including photos and quotes from participants.

Most people think of Big Ben or Victoria Street, not realising how residential the area is, or that 60% of local people live in social housing.
