Drop-in Centre

To provide an informal Drop-in Centre in the Yeovil, Somerset area to enable more bereaved parents to access our services. Being able to talk to others who have also suffered the loss of a child, even if they were an adult when they died, can be a relief from the sense of loneliness and distress

September 2011 - August 2012

  • Need

To improve access to our services by increasing the area we operate the drop-in centres in. In our rural area public transport is limited restricting access to those without their own transport.

The Yeovil drop-in centre will cover a new area, offering support to a larger number of bereaved parents. There is immense value in being able to share your grief, worries, thoughts, fears and happy memories with others who can truly empathise with how you feel.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Open a drop-in centre in Yeovil, Somerset

» Create a regular monthly drop-in with talks and therapies aimed at relieving the stress bereavement can bring

    What success will look like

Success will be...receiving 10 visitors a month and raising the awareness of the services the trust offers.

  • Impact

Enabling more bereaved parents to access support will help them to cope with the loss of a child and reduce the likelihood of further health issues brought about by the stress of such a loss.
We will demonstrate the sucess of this project by the number of parents using the service and their comments, which will be recorded in a visitors book and by a questionaire sent out towards the end of the project.

Bereaved parents do not know about the availability of the drop-in.
We will deal with this risk by establishing close links with doctors, hospitals, hospices, funeral directors and other bereavement organisations who could refer parents on to the trust. We will publicise and market the event through our website, newsletter and advertising.

Funders to this project will recieve a monthly email report detailing the activites that are taking place and a bi-monthly newsletter .

  • Background

Yeovil and its surrounding areas do not have any support specifically for bereaved parents, with poor public transport it can be difficult for them to travel to our current drop-in centre in Taunton.

Bereaved parents who are feeling overwhelmed by the loss of their son or daughter and other bereavement professionals who can then signpost parents to the drop-in.
