  • Need

Current research from the EHRC suggests as many as one in five of the British population has a disability. In Essex this means there could be up to a quarter of a million people living with a disability or long-term health condition. Whilst much has been achieved in terms of independence and equality, there are still far too many disabled people who face persistent and economic exclusion. We want to continue our work but previous accommodation was dated, inaccessible and insufficient in size.

We need a new centre to operate from so the charity can deliver more effective levels of service and foster relationships with other organisations across the East of England.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We aim to help more than double the number of disabled people we help at present

» Complete building with full range of accessible, cutting-edge facilities to deliver services from

30,000 disabled people will receive support services that improve their quality of life

    Aim 2

To improve the sustainability of the charity whilst reducing its environmental impact

» Design and construct a building that is has a minimal carbon footprint and reduces running costs for the charity as a result of energy saving measures

Achieving Passivhaus and BREEAM Excellent sustainability standards

  • Impact

Improve skills levels of/reskill disabled adults; increase participation of disabled adults in growing sectors of economy e.g. sustainable construction, IT; promote rehabilitation of vulnerable disabled and/or older people; improve physical and mental health of people with disabilities and older people; increase levels of participation in society; reduce social exclusion and isolation; help individuals give each other support. We will monitor all beneficiaries to assess the impact of the project

We have almost completed this project so the only risk is that we don't achieve the final £30,000 of funding which will delay the last elements of the building

We will call or email donors to update them on progress and send them a final written report when the building is 100% complete to demonstrate what has been achieved as a result of their kind donations
