Helping low income families

We want to open up all aspects of our counselling and lifeskills courses to those people who cannot afford to pay the full cost of a session by offering bursaries. We currently have limited income to do this. We aim to do this on an ongoing basis.

  • Need

We work in areas where people experience problems because of the deprivation levels they face. There are a large proportion of children growing up in families where conflict is an everyday occurance and this has been shown to affect their outcome in life. We want children to grow up in stable situations and have parents with higher self esteem. Currently we struggle to reach these families as we cannot offer the subsidy for counselling that we need.

We would love to be able to offer counselling in SureStart centres to help parents of young children work together to improve the outcomes for their children. We want to improve the availability of counselling by increasing our counselling locations and the number of counsellors available to do the work, as well as the money to offer the subsidy.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Improve accessibility to Relate services

» Develop an programme of increasing awareness about the work that we do across the region
» Increase where the service is available in line with where clients come to us from and increase counselling hours
» Work with other charities to identify new clients who may benefit from our services in addition to their own.

    What success will look like

Success will increasing number of clients accessing the service

    Aim 2

To provide affordable services to clients

» Raise money from grants and contracts to enable us to provide low cost and free of charge counselling to people on low incomes

    What success will look like

Success will be... providing free of charge or very low cost counselling sessions while generating enough income to remain sustainable

  • Impact

We aim to help people develop healthy relationships, which will ultimately lead to more stable family life for the children in our region, and a raised awareness of what a healthy relationship will be. We will implement a system to measure our outcomes which will demontrate these successes across our client base

The main risk is lack of income - at present clients donate to the service but we need to ensure that income covers the costs we have. We cover a large geographical region and need many centres, we have minimal administration staff and costs for counsellors, but raising enough money to meet demand is a constant battle.

We can report on client numbers and will be able to report on outcomes in the future. We have an electronic appointment system which enables us to pinpoint where clients come from and a wide range of information which can be used to produce reports regularly
