Star for Burton

A campaign to secure a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the Welsh acting legend Richard Burton while at the same time supporting scholarships for students at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Supported by the Western Mail, Principality Building Society and the Welsh Rugby Union.

  • Need

    Need

    Richard Burton was one of Wales' greatest actors. This campaign seeks to recognise his status on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as helping to establish scholarships in Burton's name at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

    Solution

    Working in conjunction with the Western Mail, the Welsh Rugby Union and Principality Building Society, the campaign will co-ordinate a formal application for a star in Burton's name. The campaign will be promoted in the Western Mail and by the Welsh Rugby Union and will tie in with the opening of the Richard Burton Theatre at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in the summer.

    To submit an application to for a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in memory of Richard Burton.

    » Collection at Wales vs England rugby match

    Success will be a formal application, approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

    Solution: All monies raised will go towards scholarhsips at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

    Reporting

    The Western Mail will carry updates about the campaign throughout the duration of the campaign. We will report back to donors via e-mail about the progress as well as carry information on the College and the Media Wales websites.

    Location

    The campaign will be based mainly in Wales, with the majority of the fund-raising activity concentrated in the country. The star will be placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the scholarhships based at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.

    Beneficiaries

    People of Wales - by providing recognition of one of our greatest actors in the Hollywood Walk of Fame - a location that received over 10 million vistors a year.

    Students at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, whose studies will be supported financially by scholarships in Richard Burton's name.

    Audiences who attend performances at the College, including at the newly named Richard Burton Theatre.
