Youth Team - Trainees

To employ young people aged 18 to 25 on yearly traineeship programmes at 25 hours per week. To reduce unemployment. To raise achievement levels of these trainees. To provide a range of accredited training opportunities in; sports, education, youthwork, outdoor education, play work etc.

  • Need


    Reduction of youth unemployment.
    To redress the specific training needs by combining work experience and training together.
    Prepare a workforce that is solid and powerful to the economy of Bradford.
    Young people are able to claim a year long reference point.
    Support young people to access further education and employment.
    Raise self esteem and confidence.


    Through employment of a team of trainees.
    Through delivery of training.
    Through 1-2-1 intensive support; counselling, advice, pay for child care, reimburse travel costs and subsistence.
    Through active work experience opportunities.
    Through our organisation make network connections.

    Success will be... Contribution to reducing youth unemployment in the Bradford District. Young people will progress onto positive destinations at the end of the programme

    Success will be... Young people will have a training record of achievements, celebrated openly using the media and event.

  • Impact


    The young people will remain in the programme for the full term, or progress onto a positive destination (further/higher education or employment). The young people will support and promote the programme and our organisation. The young people will become volunteers and support our and other organisations. The young people will involved themselves in community activities/events to promote the district, support its improvement for the benefit of the community.


    Funding not received to cover full costs to support a viable programme. Themes and interests of funders moving away from reducing unemployment and traineeship programmes. Target being too restrictive; must employ hard to reach NEET's, long term unemployed - these invariably are those who will not complete such programmes, costing project time 'coercing' for attendance.
    General; long term sickness, change of personal circumstances, early leavers.


    reports usually take the form of a database of attendance, training records and accreditation certificates, diary sheets of attendance, quarterly or annual reports, photo/video evidence of practice, annual audited accounts, celebration event.

  • Background


    Bradford District; recruitment of the young people will take place in Bradford and selection of participants will be from the area.
    Delivery of the training and programmes will be from the main base of the organisation.


    Young people aged 18 to 25 who are unemployed for a variety of personal reasons. Those requiring additonal support and training/work experience to enter further/higher education courses or employment opportunities will benefit best from our programme.

    Why Us?

    BYDP has over 11 years experience of delivering such programmes - Newlands Youth Action Teams, Trident Youth Teams, Manningham and Girlington Youth Teams, Future Job Fund - trainees, Youth & Community Degree course students on placements x 30 plus over the years, school students x 50 plus over the years.
    Many of whom have moved into positive destination, some have been reemployed back into BYDP as project workers into new projects.
