Development Games Project
We want to work with a group of disadvantaged young people in the UK and a group in Africa to help them develop a resource of Global Youth Work Games which will then be used in informal education settings such as youth groups.
Charity information: ICA:UK
We have recently met with the Department for International Development who told us that most money in global development education is within schools, which means non-formal education e.g. youth groups are overlooked. This project makes this opportunity accessible for youth groups, who often represent the marginalised in our own society, and who could get a huge benefit from this project.
The most cost effective way to raise global awareness and responsibility amongst young people in Manchester, is to work with them in their own youth groups, where they already go. This will help us reach a group of young people who do not often get the chance to engage with ideas around fairtrade, global development, and environmental sustainability.
The games will introduce discussion about global development issues and will open up ideas
Activities» Work withyoung people in Greater Manchester and Africa to design pilot and publish the resource
What success will look like
Young people will know more about each others lives, the games will be developed and piloted.
All the young people involved will learn life-long lessons about global education, and as they grow up and influence the world, they could bring about positive changes in terms of charitable work or even policy development that will improve the lives of those in the majority countries.
Not enough people

African Partner Organisations
We have run similar projects to this for over 5 years, in the UK and over 50 years globally. These include peer research training for young people, training Young Community Leaders courses including training using co-operative games. We co-ordinate a young people's network for participation, so have widespread links with youth workers and young people.
