  • Need


    KIM staff are dedicated and passionate in working with women helping them overcome their barriers yet KIM has a major barrier organisationally and that is our lack of knowledge and expertise in modern technologies. I cannot put adequately into words the frustration of not being able to realise what you can conceptualise .Our work in KIM changes women’s lives we are asking you to help us change KIM enabling us to move forward by lifting the technological mist


    By employing a person who has the skills and experience to develop and set up our systems ,train the staff and work with the women service users and volunteers.This person will inspire confidence and help KIM move forward. As the Manager I confess to being a technophobe but acknowledge the need for us to join the world of web and mobile technologies

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    To develop a dynamic and interactive website that reflects the positive and successful work of KIM.


    » Employ a staff member with appropriate skills.
    » Set up a focus group to review the website
    » Survey all stakeholders re the usage and design of the website
    » Redesign the website

    The website will be functioning and better present the work we undertake. We will also be able to receive donations online and put in links to our activities and events.

    Aim 2

    To develop a KIM eBay shop


    » Set up the charity eBay shop and develop systems, protocols and contracts
    » Train 35 staff, volunteers and service users in the use and abuse of eBay
    » Promote the shop through the membership and other stakeholders
    » Market and develop the facility as a fundraising activity

    The shop will be selling goods, raising awareness and providing a targeted income of £500 per annum.

    Aim 3

    To fundraise through the use of social media


    » Develop social media marketing and fundraising plan
    » Train 35 service users, volunteers and staff in social media awareness
    » Set targets for income
    » Monitor and evaluate the different methods and sites for income

    All or social media sites will be functioning and raising target funds of £2000 a year.

    Aim 4

    To develop online mental health awareness campaigns


    » Set up a KIM campaign group
    » Survey of membership to decide on focus of campaign
    » External training in activism, campaigning and lobbying for all group members and other interested parties
    » Compass will develop campaign materials - Compass is KIM’s service user consultancy which writes and delivers training and presentations

    We will be successful by training 35 people in campaigning strategies and having our own mental health campaign running by the end of year two.

    Aim 5

    Develop databases and information gathering systems that aid reporting


    » Scoping exercise re information required for staff and stakeholders

    » Set up systems and train staff in the operation of database
    » Monitor database to see if it meets all our needs

    We will train all staff in the database by end of year one; we will be able to say we have been successful by setting up the database that meets the organisations need.

  • Impact


    Through awareness and fundraising, our sustainability will be enhanced; this in turn will support life changes to 250 women a year, evidenced through statistics, income and case studies. KIM will be more efficient and have built capacity through the use of data and the website, demonstrated through comparisons in report writing, ‘hits’ on our website, and the number of people trained. We will not fall behind in the electronic age and will have more credibility.


    The main risk is appointing a person who lacks the skills or aptitude to undertake the tasks; we will address this by ensuring a rigorous interview with scenarios and tests. We will co-opt a specialist in the field onto the interview board; the right person will minimise the other risks through their ability to perform and motivate through action.

  • Background


    KIM works in communities and the psychiatric hospital of North Wales. Flintshire, Wrexham and Chester are areas of urban and rural communities impacted by a decline in local industry, i.e. mining and steel works. Wrexham is the largest town in North Wales with a county population of around 130,000. Chester, though wealthier, has three areas of high multiple deprivation. In Flintshire there are an estimated 10,771 households with one or more members in an identified social need group.


    Women and communities;
    “My first admission to a psychiatric hospital was at 18, I stayed for 6 months. Following this I had 7 more admissions. I went to KIM in 02; I was living with overdoses, self harm and isolation. From a very sick client, I have steadily progressed and came off vast amounts of medication. KIM helped me improve all aspects of my life and recently I have become a volunteer for KIM. I have not had an admission in 4 years".

    Why Us?

    Because the project is about the organisation and our need to move onto a new level that embraces technological advances. We are best placed to carry out our gender specific work with women with mental health issues because of our track record of achievement. This project will help us continue what we are good at by employing somebody that understands the electronic world that is outside of our capacity.

    They give endlessly to KIMs and have formed a fundraising committee ,Ebay group .They will support the new post holder in all activities.
