YMCA Sleep Easy

GCHRYMCA is holding its Sleep Easy event at Blundell Park, home of Grimsby Town FC on 29th January 2011. Our sponsors will be braving the elements for the night to spread the message and raise awareness of youth homelessness, as well as raise much-needed funds for the work we do with young people.

  • Need

    Need

Due to local funding cuts, GCHRYMCA will lose 10% of its Supporting People grant from July 2011. Coupled with the maximum 8.9% cut in Central Government funding to our Local Authority, North East Lincolnshire Council, 2011 is setting out to be a bleak year financially for GCHRYMCA. We desperately need to raise funds in order to bridge that gap and continue providing the support and services to homeless young people that we do at present.

    Solution

Sleep Easy will raise the awareness of youth homelessness in the Humber Region, as well as raising the profile of GCHRYMCA on a regional level. By holding this event, we will be able to raise the necessary funds to continuing providing services and support to young homeless people in the Humber Region,

  • Impact

    Impact

Our project will provide funds for the continued support of young homeless in the Humber Region. Demonstrating this success will involve an improvement in the facilities on-site, an increase in our occupancy rates and an increased positive move-on percentage.

    Risk

The risk affecting this project is adverse weather. This will be dealt with by the on-site Stadium Manager, who will monitor temperatures and weather conditions. If the temperature drops to a level where participants are at risk then there is the opportunity to move the event indoors and continue it there.

    Reporting

Donors will receive email updates, links to stories online and our newsletter. We also use social networking to keep in touch with our donors.

  • Background

    Location

Blundell Park is the home of Grimsby Town FC, who have been active for over 130 years. The ground itself is one of the oldest in the country at over 110 years old and is one of the last community hubs in the Humber Region. Regularly attracting crowds of over 4,000 people for a match, Blundell Park is North East Lincolnshire's premier sporting venue and is nationally recognised, thanks to the Mariners' success in national competitions over the years.

    Beneficiaries

The whole population of the Humber Region, which totals 908,000, according to the latest stats. Nearly half a percent of people in the Humber Region are registered homeless and with this funding, Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA can continue to provide supported housing accommodation to 100 people every day.
