  • Need

In Haiti 1 in 10 people are disabled, and those with special needs are often treated appallingly. Discrimination against disabled children is common, with many children with physical or mental disabilities permanently left at home and denied the right to integrate into mainstream life. Due to a severe lack of education in the area of disability, many families simply don’t know what’s wrong with their child or how to care for them, sadly resulting in many being abandoned.

Maison de Benediction is a respite centre for children with physical and mental special needs founded in 2009. It supports over 50 families each week, offering them and their children the love and care they require. We provide health care, physiotherapy, food, music, crafts, sports and other related activities to enhance the children’s standards of life.

» We have a nurse who provides care and support for the children.

    What success will look like

» Opened up a day centre for disabled children to come and learn. play and feel included.

    What success will look like

Success will be when all families in the local area can access care and support.

    Aim 4

    What success will look like

Success will be when all children who need support can access rehabilitaion.

  • Impact

The hope is to bring long term attitude changes towards disabled children and their families. We regularly monitor and evaluate families attitudes and needs to make sure our project is appropriate.
We will demonstrate success by monitoring of attitudes and awareness.

Natural disaster - earthquakes/ flooding/ epidimics of cholera can affect the project. We have had all buildings checked for protection. All staff have been trained in basic first aid and emergency procedures.
