To provide quality education to children too poor to attend government schools. To build new classrooms and in the process train local people in building, carpentry, electrical, decorating, plastering and plumbing skills.

Children who cannot afford a school uniform and shoes are not permitted to attend the government schools. Due to HIV/AIDS there are many orphans being looked after by extended family members and in the poorest areas of Lusaka the family income is insufficient to provide for school uniforms and shoes for all these children. Consequently many intelligent and willing children go uneducated. We have seen, and proven over recent years, that many of these children can excel in education.
An informal school has been running for the past year in a church hall for 45 HIV/AIDS orphans. This year we have just funded the completion of an ablution block enabling the school to be recognised by the government. We are working with the community to raise the £71,000 needed to build 6 classrooms, science lab and ICT suite needed.
Students are selected on the basis of need - those with no immediate family.
To provide basic eduction to 200 HIV/AIDs orphans a year in a poor area of Lusaka.
Activities» Build a school in the grounds of a community church.
» Develop enterprises for the community to raise the funds to pay for teaching staff.
Success will be...90% pass to grade 9. This figure is based on our experience of a similar project in a different area of Lusaka.
To use the process of building and running the school to provide training opportunities
Activities» Set up an apprenticeship programme to develop building trade, cooking, tailoring, administration and teaching skills.
12 adults each year embark on new businesses/enterprises or teaching using skills developed working on the school project.
The school will be self - funding through the associated enterprises.
Students will be getting jobs that enable them to access an income beyond the subsistence level. A proportion of students will progress to higher education.
Teachers will be trained in the school and then be sent on placements to our rural schools, raising the education standards of the rural children.
There will be increased prosperity in the community and confidence to effect changes in their environment
There is a risk we may not be able to attract sufficient qualified teachers. We are addressing this by partnering with another school to share in the task of teacher development and training.
Representatives from WCT visit project twice a year. The school will have a website and will publish results and stories of the children each term. A written report from the school governors will be published each term and the Government's inspection reports will be sent to the donors.

One of the roughest parts of Lusaka is called Chibolya. Locals have nicknamed the ghetto ‘Baghdad,” because of the widespread violence there. Chibolya is home to an estimated 30,000 people." Education is valued by the community. Many see it as the only way to effect permanent change. With their commitment to education we stand a chance of working with them to establish a culture of learning and of self-help enterprise. the apprenticeships scheme based around the school will do that. Where there is hope there is less need for stupefying alternatives of drugs and alcohol. As we see a decrease in drug abuse the associated maladies will also decrease.
We have an established relationship with local leaders and providers whom we have proven to be trustworthy stewards of resources we have given them to date. We work though empowering the local community not doing the work for them. This ensures relevance and sustainability. We have invested in local leadership training as we are committed for the long-term in this area.

Bishop Hudson Luwi
Hudson leads the school and has done so for the last year. He project manages the building works and campaigns for funds for the work.
Brenda leads the enterprise work with the women - teaching tailoring and sewing/embroidery skills. She engages successfully with the community.
