The Winter Warmth Fund
Hundreds of older people in Cumbria are in danger of becoming ill or even dying because of the cold.
The Winter Warmth Appeal was launched in 2010 and has literally saved lives. We collect your generous donations and share them with vulnerable older people who struggle to heat their homes.
November 2017 - March 2018
Charity information: Cumbria Community Foundation
The rising cost of fuel prices has led to an increase in fuel poverty in our local communities. With pensions failing to keep up with rising fuel costs, many older people are struggling to make ends meet during the cold winter months. Some pensioners have to make the incredibly difficult decision choosing between heating or eating.
By donating to Winter Warmth Fund and having your donation doubled by the Big Give, we will ensure that vulnerable, older people receive the support they need by working in partnership with Age UK organisations across Cumbria.
Our application process enables us to have a full understanding of the needs and circumstances of everyone helped, and many receive guidance on other aspects of coping with their situation such as benefits advice, ways to keep their home warm and access to activities.
To reduce those experiencing fuel poverty which in turn will improve mental and physical wellbeing
Activities» Provide funding to support those in fuel poverty as well as providing them with support and tools to help them in the future.

“My pension credit has been going down for a number of years now. In winter I usually just use a small halogen heater instead of putting the heating on. I only put the gas on for a bath, not for heating, as it’s too expensive. It was a big relief to receive the grant."
