  • Need

The existing building of the secondary school is made of wood and straw and children can't go to school during the rainy season. There is no proper equipment,ie. desks, chairs, blackboards. The pupils and the teachers are leaving the school but there is a potential of 700 children in the neighbourhood only 400 remain at school today.

1 building of 2 classrooms can host 120 children/hour. 700 pupils can get access to education next September. The building made of a cement floor and brick walls with a tiled roof is waterproof and can function 365days/year. A new school and good conditions of work will attract good teachers.Education is freedom in theses countries, children dream of going to school.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

to bring 300 children to school by september 2011

  • Impact

Cambodia is one of the poorest country in the world, 50% of the population is less than 18 and growing, the future of the country is very dependant on the education those young people will get. The governement doesn't do enough (no public projects of building secondary schools). Only NGOs can help them. Education will bring more justice and less corruption to the country.

bad climate can delay the work. administration hassles can happen but we have built more than 100 similar projects, we know who to trust and we don't accept racket.

through our blog or by emails with pictures of the site and the feedback from our team of Cambodian employees and European volunteers on site.

  • Background

the school is in the village of Vat Thmey close to Poipet, a town on the frontier with Thailand. this region is booming because of the business with Thailand. The rural population who has lost its land come in Poipet to rent their arms to carry packages or sell food and drinks along the road or small nicknacks at the market

The province in Bantey manchey where the school is situated is the poorest region of Cambodia. the place is overcrowded (45.000 inhabitants in Poipet/4M in the country), a lot of refugees settled here after the end of the vietnamese occupation in the 90's. Most roads are still made of sand, no hospitals, no water in remote places, minefields, etc.
700 children aged 6-18 years could be educated in the new school from september 2011 , 300 more than today
