Taking The Little Brig to more young people

Last year the Little Brigs were able to provide 1300 people with the ultimate tall ship experiance. This year we would like to take the ships to even more young people. The Trust takes young people from the age of 10 of all abilities and back grounds sailing.

  • Need

    Need

The Trust is providing a unique experiance to help build young peoples skills and confidence. The young people take turns giving commands, taking the helm and pulling the ropes. This builds their team working skills and helps them learn to work together with other people.

    Solution

By helping to build self confidence and general people skills this assists the young people in their daily lives and helps them to have more confidence in the daily activities.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To take the Little Brigs to as many locations and events as possible

    Activities

» To achieve this aim we need to raise £45,000 to finance transportation, crew costs, and maintenance.

Success will be providing 1500 people with our unique Tall Ship ecperiance and having the opportunity to improve their skills and build their confidence.

  • Impact

    Impact

The long term changes will be the improved confidence and people skills of the young people we take sailing.

    Risk

The biggest risks to the project are a shortage of skiled crew and a short fall in the funding. To combate these risks we have a plan to down size the project to match the skills and funding avaliable.

    Reporting

We constantly update our web page www.littlebrig.com and our face book page with the progress of the Trust. We also send our email updates and file our report with the Charity Commision.

  • Background

    Location

Last year the boats traveled to London Docklands, Liverpool, Preston and the south coast. Our aim is to visit the poorest areas to provide the biggest benifit to the young people from those areas.

    Beneficiaries

Young people of all abilities and backgrounds. We only ask that the young people have upper body movement to enable them to take a full and active part in the sailing. Our style of sailing is also well suited to people with learning difficulties.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We are the only charity that caters for the younger age group in Tall Ship Sail training. Most other groups start with young people aged 16 and over. Our boats have been specially designed with light loads to enable young people and people with disabilities to take a full and active part in the sailing.
