  • Need

Life-limited children increasingly reach adulthood as a result of better medical care, but suffer great personal loss when those children’s services they had always used are removed after the age of 18. Facing isolation and a lack appropriate services that are focused around the difficulties of their condition (disability and complex health needs) and their social/emotional needs as a young adult they have nowhere to turn for support. The J’s Hospice works to address this problem holistically.

Home based respite enables the young adult to lead fuller lives, to be able to go out, to access their community to be independent of their parents. It helps young people/young adults to make progress in addressing issues of aspirations, dreams, hopes, etc. The service enables more young people to have respite in the home to give their parents a much needed break. The service will facilitate the smooth transition from life limiting illness into end of life care. Families are cared for as well.
