Project information

dosh for dosh

Are you able to handle your money yourself? Dosh is a service that helps people with a learning disability to manage their money.
The service costs money and this project seeks to fund the service for those people who cannot afford to fund it themselves.

The project will be ongoing.

  • Need

Some people are not able to understand the intricacies of handling money, dealing with benefits and other 'officialdom' due to their learning disability. Sometimes families manage this for them. But when the family is no longer around or if it is in the best interest of the person to manage their own budget Dosh can step in.

Dosh will provide the service to people.
By ensuring that people get the best possible advice, benefits will be fairer. Some people may access work, they will know the difference this makes to their financial situation.
It will give people confidence that their money is being handled correctly and may, in some circumstances ensure that the person gets their money and not the family as can sometimes be the case.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To give people with a learning disability greater control over their finances.

» Provide free money advice and/or advocacy.

    What success will look like

Success will be...measured through the number of people that the free service can be provided to.

  • Impact

Long term changes will be greater confidence in people with a learning disability. Measured through anecdotal evidence.
Ability to pay their way. Measured through consultation notes.
Claiming of correct benefits. Measured through consultation notes.

This project poses no great risks. It will not happen without the fund to allow it to happen. If funding becomes available it will be a winning situation for people who cannot currently afford the service.
If the project is not funded and does not happen, some people may experience a poorer quality of life leading to poor health and wellbeing.

Due to the nature of the project, confidentiality will be paramount. We will be able to present a written report with facts about the work that has been done and outcomes, but not detailing people by name.
