  • Need

The value of and demand for this work is evidenced by the outcomes of and feedback from previous Art Shape projects ( Arts activity enhances quality of life, confidence and well being thus inproving life expectancy. In addition Gloucestershire’s recent demographic trends (per Population Monitor 2006, latest available) show the ‘older’ population (>65M/60F) increasing by 13.3% between 1991 and 2006, rising to 20.8% (from 19.8%) of a steadily increasing county population.

The benefits and outcomes of Arts Well relate both to the care workers/volunteers and the older people with whom they work, raising creativity levels and confidence within both groups. Details of the programme would be published as a ‘how to’ model, which could be adopted or adapted for other groups in Gloucestershire and beyond. This model would be supported with an interactive DVD to enable outreach delivery for the programme. The programme of work would result in 20 people trained pa.

  • Impact

Increased knowledge in care settings throughout Gloucestershire and beyond of the benefits for older people through arts work as well an increased pool of people able to deliver such sessions to a high quality. Hence better quality of life for older people who have access to this delivery. This will be evidenced by the report of an external evaluator who will be involved in the project from the outset and will evaluate its work against the targets set in order that all learnings can be shared.

Not achieving the funding required for the project is a risk for its success. We have dealt with this by ensuring that it is made up with self contained units of work which could be carried out individually or as a whole to align with the level of funding we achieve for the work.

We will report at major points of the project as to its progression of success via an emailed newsletter which will also be avilable at

There will be a final external report written at the end of each year of delivery which will be disseminated in the same fashion.
