Community Learning Centre for Women (East London)
Amity wants to open a community learning centre to provide education and support for the most disadvantaged and socially isolated women in East London. This centre will help them to build confidence and personal development to find a better place in the society.
Charity information: Amity Educational Foundation
Many women in East London have little or no previous educational experience and don't feel confident to attend mainstream society or work environment because of the cultural, economic and personal lack of knowledge. Most of this women don't have the ability to express themselves in English.
Amity will provide educational programmes including English as an additional language (ESOL), short employability workshops (CV development and interview preparation; and a wide range of personal development workshops – including confidence building and assertiveness), arts and craft designing.
To educate women and provide lifetime skills.
Activities» English as an additional language (ESOL) classes
» Employability workshops
» Art and craft classes.
What success will look like
we are planning to set exams before the course starts to measure their knowledge. At the end of the term we will repeat the exams to see the progress.
This project will change the career of the women, by finding a job in a certain period of time. In the short term, 50% of the women will find work in the first 3 months after the courses. Another 25% of the women will get a job within 12 months.
Once a women has enough knowledge of English, she will find an appropriate job, she will educate her children with a different attitude, she will help support her family financially. In the long term these women will change the whole society.
Amity has done this kind of project before so many times and has the experience to avoid possible risks.
We will set up a detailed report, together with pictures and figures. This report will be published and a copy will be sent to donors.
The donors will be able to visit the classes and check the progress of the project.
