Mad Foundation Limited

The Mad Foundation helps people in some of the world's poorest countries to help themselves, by working at a grassroots level to develop much needed sustainable community resources.

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

Our goal is 'to help advance education and alleviate poverty anywhere in the world’.
Approximately 69 million school-age children were not enrolled in school in 2008 (UN, 2011). 31 million of these are in Sub-saharan Africa where there are only enough secondary school places for 36% of the children of the age to enroll (Global Education Digest, 2011). Our mission is to help tackle this global education problem and aid in the alleviation of poverty worldwide. Since 1999 we have built 128 classrooms, 12 pre-schools, 1 technical block, 1 home for street children, and 8 playgrounds for community schools, which have provided safe learning environments for thousands of children. However, schools are often still overcrowded and facilities are lacking. Further joint projects between MAD and rural communities are desperately needed.
Over 2. 6 billion people still lack access to flush toilets and other forms of improved sanitation, and where progress has occurred, it has largely bypassed the poor and the rural poor (The Millennium Development Goals Report, 2011). To help combat this problem the MAD Foundation has to date built 80 toilet blocks and pit latrines, 100 sinks and wash stations, and 13 water tanks in rural communities where there has been a lack of infrastructure and sanitation. Our grassroots community driven projects are helping alleviate poverty by providing education and health initiatives to many rural and urban communities.
