Sabin Foundation Europe
Sabin Foundation Europe
We work to reduce human suffering from infectious and neglected tropical diseases through vaccine research and development and to advocate for improved access to vaccines and essential medicines.
Sabin Foundation Europe supports vaccine research and development, advocacy efforts, and treatment programmes that improve the lives and health of the world’s poorest people and help them to achieve their full potential.
While Sabin Foundation Europe supports advocacy, research and development for most preventable diseases, one area of focus is neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). NTDs are a group of bacterial and parasitic infections that affect one in six people worldwide, including half a billion children. These diseases disable, disfigure, and trap people in a cycle of poverty and disease. The good news is that NTDs can easily be prevented. Medicines to treat and prevent these diseases exist and are often donated by pharmaceutical companies. As a result, we can treat and protect one person from all seven of the most common NTDs for about 50 pence per year.
Sabin Foundation Europe also supports efforts to raise awareness and funding for NTD control through the END7 campaign. END7 is a public/private partnership that seeks to catalyse grassroots support for NTD control efforts to encourage major political and philanthropic leaders to increase funding for this important global health issue.
Importantly, 100 percent of donations to the END7 campaign will go to NTD treatment programmes in Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, the three regions with the largest NTD burdens.
Sabin Foundation Europe aims to:
- Support the development of a new generation of low-cost vaccines to treat diseases that primarily affect the world's poorest populations and thus have little viable commercial market.
- Support programmes that raise the awareness, political will, and funding necessary to control and eliminate the seven most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
- Support vaccine advocacy and education programmes to raise awareness and prevent the spread of deadly childhood diseases in the developing world by increasing access to safe and effective vaccines.
