Little Stars- Luxor Childrens Trust

Little Stars cares for orphaned, abandoned and disabled children on the west bank of the river Nile in Luxor, Upper Egypt. The charity also cares for 60 families in an outreach programme.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

Little Stars works with orphaned, disabled and abandoned children on three levels - through education, health and relief of poverty. The charity runs three clinics for sick and disabled children, a nursery school to encourage the education of the poor children and a Training Centre for women and girls where they can learn skills to bring themselves out of poverty and into self reliance.

There is also an outreach programme which takes care of the children in 60 families within a 20 mile radius of the centre. There are approx. 350 children in this programme. Food parcels are delivered to the families every month with a supply of protein in the form of lentils, meat or poultry. There is also a program of home improvement as many of the families live in mud brick, mud floored houses that are without water and sanitation. Several houses have collapsed recently and have been entirely rebuilt in brick. In such dire situations children do not grow well and they sicken easily. Also as they are mainly sleeping on the floor they are often subject to rat and scorpion attacks. Little Stars has bought scores of beds so that the children no longer sleep on a bare floor. Cooking on open fires is a serious problem as there is a shortage of wood and children get burned. Poor medical facilities exacerbate the problem.

We can do nothing without your support. Ancient Egypt is part of the national curriculum; for many children things have not changed since those times.
