The Jack Raine Community Foundation

Children with hard to reach disengaged backgrounds. All our children are working hard to change their lives, look for experiences that will give them good education and employment values with positive social and community integration.

Founded 2004

  • Mission statement

One of Yorkshire’s largest Alternative Learning Provision (ALPs) providing education, life-skills and welfare support for hard to reach and disengaged children and young adults with three core age ranges of 11yrs to 16yrs, 16yrs to 19yrs and 20yrs to 24yrs.

From our beginnings as a support partner to York Training Centre we soon built up a solid reputation in engaging young people back into education when other avenues had closed down.

An official ALPs provider to York City Council Education Otherwise, The Danesgate Centre, The Skills Centre, York College and many Secondary schools in the York area.

We believe in supporting the welfare of the individual - education and engagement will naturally follow.

Through our work with the 11 to 16 year school leavers we have supported them into placements with York College, engagement in positive social activities, apprenticeships and employment.

We believe in working with partnerships throughout the city that are part of the person’s lives. Looking at beyond their present situation we work on key five areas.

    a) Progression routes
    b) Positives social activities
    c) Education
    d) Employment
    e) Independent living

To do this we begin with an individual’s welfare, family life, friends, personal needs and requirements, then build the trust to make changes and an pace that suites the learner. We support the children and community through education, welfare and sport.
