United World Schools
United World Schools
UWS is dedicated to improving educational opportunity in the
developing world, creating cross-cultural global links and
promoting world citizenship.
UWS will work towards creating a global network of schools that provide educational opportunities to children in areas where no education is provided by the state or non-governmental organisations. UWS aims to build 500 schools by 2020, across 15 identified post-conflict and developing countries.
UWS will provide the children with the ability to read, write and count as well as providing them with life skills essential for their communities.
UWS will create links between schools in poor communities and those in wealthier parts of the world to connect children and teachers. The mission is for each community school to be sponsored by a more affluent school. The concept seeks to empower the youth of today with a sense of global responsibility and understanding of the circumstances of children elsewhere
in the world. UWS will assist affluent schools to develop this partnership and support mechanisms for the community schools ensuring long term sustainability.
UWS will help improve the skills of local teachers and school management teams through training and mentoring.
United World Schools has a flexible, generic education model that is simple yet effective. It is a grassroots educational programme which is anchored in partnership with local communities and in developing relationships between young people in developing countries in the OECD.
UWS, as a pilot 2009 - 2012, has built and sustained 12 schools in rural Cambodia. In 2012 UWS has begun building schools in Sri Lanka.
United World Schools aims to:
- By building and sustaining schools, in partnership with local communities, UWS provide the right to read, write and count to children who, for whatever reason, have been denied access to education.
- We will meet the global need to provide education for children where no education is provided by the national or local government, NGOs or charities.
