FUM helps with the development of villages in the Tabora region of Tanzania, including health clinics, three Rural Craft colleges and the provision of clean water supplies and educational bursaries.

  • Mission statement

    The promotion of health, crafts, agriculture, education and small scale businesses in villages of the Tabora region of Tanzania. We aim to provide clean water supplies and latrines in all our supported villages and institutions as well as providing educational materials and tools.

    In addition we support young persons from the UK wishing to volunteer their expertise to communities in the developing world through the finding of suitable placements and the provision of contacts in Tabora.

  • Aims

    Friends of Urambo and Mwanhala (FUM) aims to:

    • provide a bursary scheme to enable primary school children in Nzega township who are orphaned or from very poor families to continue their education at secondary school.
    • improve the health of rural communities through the provision and maintenance of Mother and Child Health Clinics. We currently support 12 clinics in the Tabora region.
    • provide safe water supplies and latrines at clinics, colleges, primary schools and village communities in the Tabora region. Water improvement projects include wells and rainwater harvesting.
    • support the Rural Crafts colleges in Urambo, Mwanhala and Sikonge to provide training for young people from surrounding villages in woodwork, metalwork, tailoring, agriculture and other vital skills.
    • provide opportunities for young people in the UK to visit the Tabora region to use their expertise in the promotion of our aims and for Tanzanian adults to visit the UK for short study visits.
