International Disaster Volunteers (IDV)

IDV helps disaster affected communities achieve sustainable recovery.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

At IDV we believe that to provide meaningful assistance to disaster affected and at risk communities around the world we have to do more than construct buildings. We need to understand and address the factors that make communities vulnerable to disaster. Our work will be organised with these factors in mind so we can effect change that far outlives our presence.

  • Aims

International Disaster Volunteers (IDV) aims to:

    • THE RELIEF OF SUFFERING AMONG VICTIMS OF NATURAL DISASTERS IN THE FORM OF RECONSTRUCTION, HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION AND INITIAL RELIEF FOR PERSONS, BODIES, ORGANISATIONS AND/OR COUNTRIES AFFECTED
    • TO DEVELOP THE CAPACITY AND SKILLS OF MEMBERS OF DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES WORLD-WIDE IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY ARE BETTER ABLE TO IDENTIFY, AND HELP MEET, THEIR OWN NEEDS
    • TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THOSE WHO VOLUNTEER WITH EDV) AS TO THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON WORLD-WIDE DISASTER TRENDS
    • TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THOSE LIVING IN DISASTER AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN HOW TO SURVIVE, RECOVER FROM AND IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE FOLLOWING A NATURAL DISASTER
