Ingestre Road Community Centre

We are a bustling hub serving Kentish Town, North London. We are currently fundraising for the Ingestre Road Good Neighbourhood Scheme, a service for elderly, vulnerable members of the community.

Founded 1974

  • Mission statement

A key strand of our work is supporting older people through our Good Neighbour Scheme.

Our mission statement for that service is to support elderly people to live independently and safely with dignity.

The Good Neighbour scheme has been running since 1997. We support around 100 elderly members of the community through the following provisions:

A dedicated and trusted point of contact and support
    A befriending and escort service
    A gardening and maintenance service
    A social events programme

This work is currently managed by a scheme co-ordinator, funded by Camden Local Authority's Adult Social Services budget. However at the end of June 2012, due to funding cuts the council is no longer able to fund this post.

The scheme is highly valued by both its members and the volunteers who support them.

We are launching our fundraising campaign to help us stay open in the short term so that we are able to develop a sustainable business model for the long term.

We have always sought to enable and empower our members to help themselves and each other as much as is possible. This principle will be at the heart of our new business model and we are in the process of exploring ways in which we can develop peer to peer support amongst our members.

We are confident that we have the necessary skills, energy and resilience to adapt our service to ensure that we can support our most vulnerable elderly members of our community for many years to come.
