City Year UK

City Year recruits 18-to-25-year-olds for 11 months of full-time volunteering as near-peer tutors, mentors and role models in schools in deprived areas across London and Birmingham.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

City Year believes that young people can change the world as near-peer role models, mentors and tutors volunteering in schools in deprived communities.

By dedicating a year of service through City Year, young people can inspire pupils and act as a catalyst to change their world. In turn, the experience of supporting children changes City Year’s volunteers, known as corps members, turning them into self-confident leaders who have the passion, values, experiences and skills to make a success of their own lives and make a difference to their communities.

  • Aims

    City Year UK aims to:

    • To create an environment where children can excel, whatever their background, tackling academic under-attainment.
    • To create a rewarding experience for 18-to-25-year-olds so they can gain skills, characteristics and contacts which will help their successful transition into further education, employment or training
