Action On Pre-eclampsia

Action on Pre eclampsia campaigns to stop the deaths of mothers and babies from this disease of pregnancy which kills 10 women and 1,000 babies every year in the UK.

Founded 1992

  • Mission statement

Most deaths of mothers and babies from pre eclampsia are preventable.
By raising public awareness and offering training to midwives APEC aims to reduce maternal and infant deaths. Mothers to be, and those around them, should be given better information and made aware of the vital importance of attending ante natal appointments - to this end APEC provides leaflets to hospitals. Those affected by the disease need support - APEC runs a free helpline for this purpose. Health professionals who care for pregnant women need more understanding of the disease and APEC run regular study days for them. APEC also campaigns for more research into the cause of pre eclampsia. APEC wants to see the year when no woman or baby dies as a result of this devastating disease.
