Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy

The Osteopathic Centre for Children/Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy, a charity which ensures that paediatric osteopathy is available to children regardless of their family's ability to pay.

Founded 1991

  • Mission statement

The Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) offers an effective, non-invasive alternative or complement to traditional medication and drug therapies, helping babies and children develop into normal strong infants and on into healthy adults. This can help in reducing the amount of medical support an individual will need throughout his or her life, which means a healthier life and reduced costs to the NHS. By making no charge for treatments, we ensure the benefits of osteopathic care are accessible to anyone.

The OCC has two clinics in Wandsworth and Shoreditch, where all mums and children are offered osteopathic care regardless of their ability to pay. The centre is also a teaching clinic, where some of the best osteopaths in the profession train students on our unique two-year postgraduate diploma in paediatric osteopathy. A small team of osteopaths also visit two London hospitals (General Barnet, North Middlesex) twice a week.

  • Aims

Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy aims to:

    • We treat all children from birth to 18 (83% of total treatments), pregnant women and post-partum women up to six months after they have given birth (17% of total treatments). Patients come mainly from London and the South East. Some families travel from the north of England, where the OCC used to have a satellite clinic in Manchester. One family even travels regularly from India to bring their child for treatment at the OCC! Patients come from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. However, by operating only on a donation basis, the OCC makes the benefits of osteopathy especially accessible to families who could not otherwise afford private treatment. Every patient who visits us is treated as an individual; the focus is on them as a unique person and not just on the conditions with which they present. Osteopathy is about health and wellbeing as a whole and treatment is holistic, so patients do not need to show any specific condition to benefit from our treatments. However, we treat symptoms resulting from a vast array of illnesses, from migraine and reflux to cerebral palsy.
