CHICKENSHED use theatre to champion difference and demonstrate the strengths of a more inclusive world. Based at our purpose-built theatre in the London Borough of Enfield, and with a base in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, our diverse programme, delivered locally, nationally and internationally, includes performance, education and training, participatory activities and outreach work in the community.
Our vision is a society that enables everyone to flourish and our mission is to create entertaining and outstanding theatre that celebrates diversity and inspires positive change.
We bring together children and young people from every walk of life – with a range of abilities, perspectives and personal experiences – to learn, share values, challenge labels and exceed expectations through an ethos of inclusivity, where everyone supports each other, in order to discover each individual’s true potential. Everyone is welcome at Chickenshed, and everyone is given the support they need to progress and achieve. We break down the barriers people may face in their lives, whether they are physical, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural, or financial, and, through the performing arts, we help young people to discover the best version of themselves, and become a positive force in our society.
Chickenshed aims to:
- Provide inclusive extra-curricular performing arts activities for 700+ Children's and Youth Theatre members, through which participants develop their personal, social and creative skills.
- Offer an accredited Further and Higher Education programme, supporting young people from all backgrounds to achieve BTEC, Foundation degree and BA (Hons) qualifications in inclusive performance.
- Extend our reach to disadvantaged children, young people and adults, through an extensive outreach programme and open access activities, both at our theatre and in the community.
- Stage thought-provoking, inspirational theatre, demonstrating the artistic excellence achieved through inclusion and diversity.
