The Family Centre (Deaf Children)

We bring together families living with deafness. At our family activities children meet new friends and build their confidence and communication, whilst parents share experiences and gain support.

Founded 1995

  • Mission statement

We bring together families living with deafness at organised family and children's activities. We are based in Bristol and support families from the surrounding counties.

We welcome deaf parents and their children, hearing parents, their deaf children and hearing siblings and the extended family.

We organise a range of family activities that are bi-lingual (English/BSL) and designed to include all the children whatever their level of hearing and whether they use hearing aids, have cochlear implants or sign.

We also create regular opportunities for parents and relatives to come together with other families so they can meet those in a similar situation and benefit from their support, knowledge and experience. With staff and trustees from The Family Centre on hand, families can get a fuller picture of the choices available to them and their children and understand the practicalities of those choices.

We provide BSL courses, sessions and workshops in a range of formats to support family communication.

We work with local professionals to meet and engage new families. We represent the needs and views of all our families at local networks and forums.

We send a weekly email newsletter to families and professionals with information about our activities, local and national news and information so they are fully aware of services and opportunities available.
