Freightliners City Farm

Freightliners is a small farm in north London where local individuals and groups can learn and interact with the environment and each other through animal care, horticulture and sustainable practices.

Founded 1973

  • Mission statement

    To bring a little bit of the countryside in the city and to provide an educational and recreational resource for the community, promoting social welfare and quality of life through a collaborative and inclusive community project based on farming and gardening.

    The objectives of the charity are to:
    - improve the quality of life of people particularly those most vulnerable and in need
    - promote education and practical skills development
    - to provide a free open access greenspace with farm animals and crops
    within the London borough of Islington and its environs.

  • Aims

    Freightliners City Farm aims to:

    • To deliver a volunteer programme which empowers individuals toward employment, education and training as well as providing an accepting and supportive environment for all members of the community.
    • To promote understanding of the concept of farming, food production and animal care at a local level as the leading body for community farming and horticulture in the borough of Islington.
    • To use the farming context to facilitate social inclusion rather than exclusion, through training, volunteering and community involvement and to target resources towards this.
    • To promote the concept of city farms to members of the public, local government and planning bodies, and to be an example of excellence in city farming.
    • To be the leading local educational resource for environmental, farming, horticultural and animal care issues.
