Charity information

Hartcliffe And Withywood Teenage Parents Project

The Teenage Parents Project was founded in September 1991 and members devised the constitution in order for the project to become a Charity and Limited Company in 2003. This led to the project managing its own community centre, courtesy of Bristol City Council.
Since this time around 60 members have taken the opportunity to sit on the Management Committee alongside professionals, this has proved a great success. Interested new and existing members have the opportunity to attend steering groups offering them a platform to influence and share their visions. Over the decades we have supported thousands of young families in developing new skills, building confidence and self-esteem, enhancing their home-life, relationships and much more.
South Bristol has a high rate of teenage pregnancy and research shows that young parents are more likely to be at risk through Socio-economic deprivation, Low educational attainment, lack of positive support, being a child of a teenage mother, Low self-esteem, and experience sexual abuse. These young families live in one of the most deprived Lower Super Output Areas and often exhibit multiple risk factors of poverty.
