A Mencap group covering Sunderland and County Durham ,we work with children and young people with a learning disabilty, their families and carers providing sport and eduacational opportunities

  • Mission statement

    To Enable young people and their families and carers who have a learning/and or physical disability appropriate recreation and sports opportunities and to ensure that they have access to leadership and coaching opportunities in the areas of interest that they have.
    We also aim to ensure that the children and young people that we work with have a positive attitude to life and themselves by enabling and equipping them with the necessary skills to achieve their potential and goals

  • Aims

    Wear Mencap (Sunderland Gateway) aims to:

    • Education We are a registered Asdan, Sport Leader uK and UK Youth , British safety Council and Gateway Qualification centre. We enable all our young people to gain accreditation for things they do
    • To ensure that our young people and families have access to nformation on matters of health and Wellbeing for themselves and for those they live with.
    • To provide access to sporting activities and training as coaches and leaders of activities, in order to help our young people to be confident and gain experience that will enable them to become employ
    • To provide training for and experiences for young people with disabilities that they would not normally get at school or college in terms of education and independence
    • To support families and siblings of people affected by disability both emotionally and spiritually and to equip them to return to the workplace as their children gain independence
