21 Plus is a support group of families who meet to share information, resources and ideas relating to all areas of life with children who have Down's Syndrome in Monmouthshire and surrounding areas.
21 Plus facilitates families getting together to exchange information and share the joys and trials of having a child with Down’s syndrome.
21 Plus enables the children with Down’s syndrome to mix with other children who have the condition and form lasting friendships.
21 Plus currently runs specialised speech and language groups for children with Down’s syndrome.
21 Plus is committed to facilitate specialised training for professionals about Down’s syndrome, inclusion of children with Down’s Syndrome into schools and providing appropriate support for the children.
21 Plus covers the whole of Monmouthshire and the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas.
21 Plus aims to:
- Share information and resources in order to increase the knowledge and confidence of parents/carers to give the best help they can to their children through a quarterly newsletter for parents.
- Fund and organise training for parents/carers and education professionals. We have been running yearly training events and aim to continue those every year.
- Raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome locally and press for better services for our children where appropriate.
- Run weekly specialised speech and language therapy groups for children with Down's Syndrome lead by co-workers who were trained by Symbol UK, specialists in speech therapy for Down's Syndrome.
