  • Mission statement

    The mission of the service is:
    • To promote the mental and sexual health of young people;
    • To provide a community based service with no waiting time;
    • To provide a service targeted at the most emotionally and socially vulnerable young individuals in our community who have the greatest difficulty in taking up and using health care resources;
    • To provide rapid consultation and assessment with immediate feedback to referring individuals or agencies by a doctor, counsellor/psychotherapist with the appropriate experience and training;
    • To provide an immediately available set of medically or psychologically based treatments tailored to the individual’s needs by trained the fully supervised doctors and psychotherapists;
    • To provide a user friendly service which is responsive to young people who need help with equal access to all regardless of sex, race, income, social class or other socio-demographic factors;
    • To promote good interdisciplinary and inter-agency working;
    • To provide relevant teaching and training for students of the core professions as well as for related disciplines in education, social services and youth services;
    • To promote improvements in the service and in the understanding of the birth control needs and the mental disorders of young people through monitoring and evaluation.

    Brandon Centre For Counselling And Psychotherapy For Young People aims to:

    • To reduce the incidence and prevalence of mental disorder in young people.
    • To improve the quality of life for young people especially those from deprived families and minimise the risks to their emotional and sexual development.
    • To reduce the risk of suicide and self-harm.
    • To reduce the risk of sexual abuse and re-abuse and prevent physically and sexually abused young people from becoming abusers in adulthood
    • To reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy, and cervical cancer and related diseases.
